2026 Coldest Night of the Year Walk
February 28, 2026
4-6 PM
Water Works Park, Des Moines, Iowa
The Coldest Night of the Year walk is a fun family event which takes place in the U.S. and Canada on one day, at a simultaneous time. It is an event designed to bring awareness to the weather conditions our homeless neighbors must endure to survive. The walk in Des Moines benefits Central Iowa Shelter and Services, and helps support them on their mission to eliminate homelessness in our communities across the state.
Trinity United Presbyterian Church participated last year, and is walking again this year. Last year there were 18 walkers and $7,200 was raised for the shelter. They would like to have more teams for the event this year, and challenge all member churches of the Des Moines Presbytery to join them. This event is for young and old alike, and you can choose to walk 1 mile or 3 miles. What a great way to get your steps in! If you are not able to gather a team and would like to join Trinity’s Frosty Trekkers, please contact Barb Yearous. They would be happy to have you!
