Going to the ARK!
At the beginning of 2022, the Education & Mission Committee of Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford, Iowa challenged the congregation of 74 members to a special mission project. This project was anticipated to take the entire year…and maybe longer. It would become the “theme” of the entire year for the Sunday Family Funday intergenerational group as well as Vacation Bible School. The charge was to BUILD AN ARK in 2022! What this meant was to raise $5,000 so that a Community Farm Bundle could be purchased from the Presbyterian Giving Catalog.
What wasn’t expected was where all the support received for this project would come from. Naturally, the church family provided financial gifts, but also community members, local organizations, and even family of the church members!
AND what was totally AMAZING was to complete the collection of funds by May!! We celebrated this achievement on Pentecost Sunday noting that when God is involved, ALL things are possible.
We did keep the project open through July as the theme for our combined VBS & Summer Munch Bunch programs was “ARK! Who Goes There?” — the story of Noah’s Ark! After several years of “reinventing” what VBS looked like and low participation, we welcomed 39 children to the program. Again, we recognized that when God is involved, ALL things are possible!
At the very beginning of the project, the committee had a dream of celebrating the accomplishment of raising the funds to BUILD AN ARK in 2022. With that goal met, the celebration has been planned—a bus trip to the ARK ENCOUNTER and CREATION MUSEUM in Kentucky!
