Stated Clerk J. Herbert Nelson to Preach at 5th Anniversary Celebration of First Arabic Presbyterian
Sunday, June 5, 4:00 p.m.
Five years ago, First Arabic Presbyterian Church (FAPC) made history by becoming our presbytery’s first congregation of Sudanese/Arabic-speaking individuals, and our first new church to be chartered in nearly 30 years. PC(USA) Stated Clerk J. Herbert Nelson, who was present on that historic day in 2017, described it as a “hallelujah moment,” and indeed, it was!
Next month, First Arabic will welcome the Rev. Dr. Nelson back to Iowa as the congregation hosts a special celebration for its fifth anniversary. Please join us Sunday, June 5, at 4:00 p.m. at Cottage Grove Church, 1050 – 24th Street in Des Moines, for a joyful worship service with Holy Communion, uplifting music, and Dr. Nelson as guest preacher. The service will be presented in both English and Arabic.
Following worship, all are invited to stay for a time of festivities that will include sharing, singing, food and fellowship. Come to learn more about Sudanese culture and worship at First Arabic. Taste some delicious Sudanese food, and enjoy a yummy piece of Anniversary Cake!
First Arabic has much to celebrate, despite the challenges our world has faced in the last five years. It is a vibrant and growing congregation, with as many as 1200 people participating in worship each week in person or online from approximately 15 countries! In addition, FAPC’s Arabic Outreach Center provides life-changing support to immigrants and refugees and their families as they assimilate into American culture in our city. FAPC has become a haven of faith and a beacon of hope for countless Arabic-speaking immigrants and refugees, both locally and around the world.
The Anniversary Celebration is open to all! Please join us on Sunday afternoon, June 5.
