Interim Position Open - Hartford Community United

Interim Pastor Job Description and Responsibilities

 The Interim Pastor (IP) will lead worship, assist with pastoral care, provide administrative duties, and be involved in educational programs, larger church events, and mission activities.  This is a half-time position (20 – 25 hours per week).

Worship

  • IP will lead worship on a weekly basis.
  • IP will preach engaging sermons with little reliance on notes
  • IP will preside at the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper monthly, Sacrament of baptism, funerals, and weddings as needed

Pastoral Care

  • IP will provide pastoral care in serious circumstances.
  • IP will be available for counseling.

Administration

  • IP will maintain regular office hours.
  • IP will work with committees upon request.
  • IP will prepare cover article and additional articles for the church newsletter.
  • IP will serve as moderator of the Session.
  • IP will work on strengthening the stewardship program by empowering congregational participation.

Education

  • IP will be available to assist with Christian Education initiatives as needed. (Bible Study, youth programs, etc.)

Mission & Fellowship

  • IP will participate in fellowship activities of the church.

Larger Church

  • IP will participate in ecumenical activities. (Presbytery of Des Moines, South Central Regional Partnership, Local Ministerial Alliance, etc.)

Community United Presbyterian Church (CUPC) will support the ministry of the Interim Pastor in the following ways:

  • Praying for the pastor
  • Participating in worship services and church activities
  • Providing financial compensation for ministry services
  • Providing pastoral care through regular visitation to the congregation
  • Serving on church committees
  • Providing an annual performance review
  • Providing elder commissioner to attend Presbytery of Des Moines meetings

The 509th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Des Moines will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the United Christian-Presbyterian Church, 1500 Industrial Ave., Bedford, Iowa. The meeting will be hosted by the Southwest Regional Partnership of the Presbytery. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m.
