Transformative Workshops for Your Church

The Transformation Team of the Presbytery of Des Moines has developed four different workshops that can be shared with the leadership of your congregation. Each workshop is about 90 minutes long and is led by at least two members of the Transformation Team. These workshops are held at your church at a time that is convenient for as many of the participants as possible. Each of these workshops “stand alone” but you may choose to do more than one at different times. However, at the conclusion of one of the workshops your congregation may choose to pursue this area deeper. Each workshop provides resources for further study. Consider inviting one of these workshops into your church soon! Hospitality in the Kingdom of God What does it mean to be hospitable? How is this idea rooted in Scripture? How can your church become a friendlier, more hospitable place to visitors and strangers throughout the year? This workshop will explore this important Biblical theme and provide some practical ideas about how you can implement them in the context of your congregation. A Praying Congregation Prayer is an essential part of our life of faith and yet many of us feel uncomfortable praying, particularly out loud. We are worried that we might say the wrong thing and offend someone, or even worse offend God! This workshop will help congregations look very intentionally at prayer. It will explore several different kinds of prayers both individually and as a congregation. Leadership Development How does one listen for God’s call upon their lives? What does that call sound like? What does it look like? How should we respond? This workshop provides an opportunity to discuss these important issues in the context of your congregation and its leadership. There will be a chance to also explore what it means to be a servant leader and how that might look in your setting. Visioning/Ministry Discerning It can sometimes be easy for congregations to get stuck in the comfortable rut of maintenance, going from Sunday to Sunday, program to program with little thought for where God is leading them. Using some innovative activities, this workshop will guide your leadership through exploring how God has worked in your congregation in the past, where God is at work in the present, and where the Lord may be leading you in the future. Do any of these workshops sound interesting! We hope so!
