The Presbytery of Des Moines voted unanimously on Saturday, June 3, to organize and constitute a new church in Des Moines, the First Arabic Presbyterian Church.  The church – whose members are primarily Sudanese immigrants and refugees – is a unique congregation, joined together by the common language of Arabic.* Under the Arabic umbrella, the church is able to bring together people from many different Sudanese tribes, as well as those from other Arabic-speaking countries such as Egypt, Syria and Iraq.

The United Church of Faith in Keota, Iowa is searching to fill a Part-time (estimated 18 hours per week) Temporary Pastor position.  Keota is a town of 1000 people approx. 45 miles SW of Iowa City.  The UCF is a congregation of God’s people and we will always find ourselves adapting to changing dynamics of a rural community.  This is evidenced by the merging of Baptist, Christian, Methodist and Presbyterian congregations within the last 80 years as God has continually found ways for us to work together.  Relationships and worship have provided the foundation upon which our church community has and will continue to prevail.  Our community has been blessed with a good school system, good businesses, fire department, and library.

At the 508th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Des Moines, following the All-Iowa Presbyterians Gathering at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames on June 2-3, 2017, PC(USA) Stated Clerk Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II was on hand to welcome the First Arabic Presbyterian Church into the Presbytery of Des Moines.
