Dianne Van Gorp First to be Honored by Presbytery PW

Dianne Van Gorp of First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa has become the first woman nominated by her church to be honored by the Presbytery Presbyterian Women with the PW Purpose Awards. Dianne was honored at the 2017 Spring Connection of the Presbytery PW that was held on Saturday at Trinity United Presbyterian in Indianola. The Presbyterian Women (PW) of the Presbytery of Des Moines has established the PW Purpose Awards.  The PW Coordinating Team recognizes there are women deserving of these awards throughout all the churches of the Presbytery; and are requesting nominations.  The awards will honor women of the Presbytery who have distinguished themselves in one of four categories taken from the PW Purpose statement.  One nomination will be selected from each of the four categories

PW Purpose Awards categories:

  • Demonstrates faithfulness to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
  • Demonstrates support for the mission of the church worldwide,
  • Demonstrates working for justice and peace,
  • Demonstrates steps to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

The 509th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Des Moines will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the United Christian-Presbyterian Church, 1500 Industrial Ave., Bedford, Iowa. The meeting will be hosted by the Southwest Regional Partnership of the Presbytery. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m.
