Join Iowa Presbyterians June 2-3 in Ames for an Inspiring Weekend!

This summer the PCUSA Stated Clerk is coming to Iowa, and all Iowa Presbyterians are invited to join him in Ames for an inspiring weekend gathering.  The Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson was elected Stated Clerk last June in a historic vote by the General Assembly, becoming the first African American to hold this top ecclesial office.

Dr. Nelson is a third-generation Presbyterian pastor and a prophetic voice for justice.  He has served churches in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Memphis, Tennessee.  He also held the position of associate director of the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis.  Since 2010 he has led the PCUSA’s Office of Public Witness in Washington D.C.  He holds a doctor of ministry degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a master of divinity from Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary.

Dr. Nelson will lead worship on Friday evening, June 2, and deliver a keynote message on Saturday morning, sharing his vision for our future together as Presbyterians.  The event, held at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, will also include a mission fair, discussion, fellowship, and the opportunity to sing in a mass choir.

All Presbyterians are invited to attend this important event!  Registration is now underway.  Below you will find a flyer, a brochure and the registration form.  Saturday afternoon is when the Presbytery of Des Moines 508th Stated Meeting will be taking place.

Deadline for registration is May 10, 2017.
