First Arabic Begins New Year with New Leaders

Sunday, January 8, the First Arabic Presbyterian Worshiping Community in Des Moines celebrated an inspiring and exciting milestone during worship with the commissioning of its leaders. The service was jointly led by CRE Ekram Kachu, members of the congregation, and the Presbytery representatives: TE Jim Koopman (Interim General Presbyter); TE Shamaine Chambers King (Windsor Heights, Windsor); RE Sandy Wagener (Ankeny); and RE Ginny Hancock (Des Moines, Central). Those who were commissioned were:  James Anaal, Magdy Kachu, Sabri Juma, Haidar Kokola, Jam Duany, Mono Ghono, and Ngor Jongbaai.

Following worship the congregation enjoyed a delicious meal of Sudanese and American food.  Jim Koopman then led the congregation in a discussion focused on visioning and planning, with members of the Presbytery's Sudanese Support Team participating.

The newly commissioned leaders of the First Arabic Church, part of the 1001 Worshiping Communities of the PC(USA), are looking forward to the future with great faith and expectations!
