Sunday, January 8, the First Arabic Presbyterian Worshiping Community in Des Moines celebrated an inspiring and exciting milestone during worship with the commissioning of its leaders. The service was jointly led by CRE Ekram Kachu, members of the congregation, and the Presbytery representatives: TE Jim Koopman (Interim General Presbyter); TE Shamaine Chambers King (Windsor Heights, Windsor); RE Sandy Wagener (Ankeny); and RE Ginny Hancock (Des Moines, Central). Those who were commissioned were: James Anaal, Magdy Kachu, Sabri Juma, Haidar Kokola, Jam Duany, Mono Ghono, and Ngor Jongbaai.
The 2nd Annual Our Sister Parish Medical Delegation traveled to Berlín, Usulután, El Salvador to the Pastoral House. They departed Tuesday, October 25 and returned to the states on Tuesday, November 1. There were 9 medical professionals and 5 support staff that made the trip. They visited a number of the small communities in the area, setting up clinics and working with the folks in need of their services. There were 747 visits made during 4 days of clinic time.
The Our Sister Parish Fiesta FunRaiser was held on Saturday, October 22 at the Intentional Eucharistic Community, 3300 University Ave, Des Moines. This is an annual event to raise funds for the El Salvador mission of the Presbytery of Des Moines. There were great silent auction items, great food and wonderful speakers.
