At the recent 508th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Des Moines at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames, the Committee on Preparation for Ministry celebrated with three adults who have chosen to become a Teaching Elder in the PC(USA).

The Presbytery of Des Moines voted unanimously on Saturday, June 3, to organize and constitute a new church in Des Moines, the First Arabic Presbyterian Church.  The church – whose members are primarily Sudanese immigrants and refugees – is a unique congregation, joined together by the common language of Arabic.* Under the Arabic umbrella, the church is able to bring together people from many different Sudanese tribes, as well as those from other Arabic-speaking countries such as Egypt, Syria and Iraq.

“Whoa, take’er easy there, Pilgrim.”

The South Central Partnership of the Presbytery spent a fun evening on Thursday, April 27 being served dinner by the folks at First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset and then touring the John Wayne Birthplace Museum.  There were folks representing Carlisle, Scotch Ridge; Hartford, Community United; Indianola, Trinity United; LeRoy, First; Centerville, First and Lucas, First Presbyterian Churches. Interim General Presbyter Rev. Jim & Jan Koopman also joined in the fun.
